By locking the price in the contract, it could eliminate any risk of price volatility (Hedging in Practice, 2013). For example, if there is a huge possibility that the price of steel will increase in a certain period of time. Due to that, the company will engage in future contract and lock-in the price for a specific period in t he future.Regardless of increase in steel price, the company is in line to buy the commodity at a lower lock-in price as stated in the agreed future contract.
